Café Local38 is located on a side street at the very center of Sofia.

It’s neatly tucked away in an old building and you cannot tell there is a beautiful café hidden in it. Unless you see the big white letters over the door, that is :)

You climb some stairs and enter a minimal reception-like area where you’re greeted by the barista behind a bright yellow La Marzocco machine.

The beauty of the place is on the second floor: high ceilings, co-working space accompanied by secluded seating where you can have a nice quiet conversation.

The beans served are from Belgium-based roasters Wide Awake.

Of all the times I’ve visited the staff has always been the same and my orders were always made very well.

I only wish the staff would be a bit more talkative and welcoming because at times the interactions feel very transactional. And that takes away from the experience of the whole place.
